Kelsey’s creative journey began with ceramics, as a tangible way to explore her evolving identity through the experience of motherhood. Her work has since grown into a practice that blends tapestry and ceramic elements, as she is drawn to the raw, grounding nature of these materials. Her intuitively-stitched compositions, layered with her ceramic pieces, speak to the imperfect beauty of transformation and healing. In these works, the elements of earth, fire, water and air remain present, but are now reimagined in narrative, sculptural forms that invite contemplation. Kelsey started ceramics while living in Portugal, the home of ceramics, in 2020, in the studio of Cecile *M. When returning to Cape Town in 2022 she joined Anthony Shapiro's studio where she met Marlene Steyn, and other artists with whom she practices weekly. Kelsey’s pieces have become emotional landscapes. Each work holds space for the quiet resilience of motherhood, the collective threads of the feminine experience, and the joy found in life’s details. She hopes her work nurtures the viewer's soul and offers a moment of reflection and connection.
